Mami was born in Japan and was educated in the United States and in the United Kingdom.

She has resided in Hackney since 2006 and has worked at the Stoke Newington School since 2015. She initially worked as a Library Assistant before becoming an Art Technician.

She is an advocate of the positive influence of reading in young people’s lives, having worked in public, university and secondary school libraries in the US and UK over the last 20 years.

A creative individual – she studied painting and continues to paint during her spare time – she believes that a creative education is a key to a fairer and kinder society.

Mami spent three years as a Chair of the PTA at a primary school in Hackney, leading various fundraising events and initiatives.

"I feel privileged to be a governor at Stoke Newington School, a community school where creativity, equality and diversity is at the heart of everything that we do. I volunteered to be a governor as I wanted to contribute my unique lived experience and skills as a current member of staff, as a parent and an individual."
