Role: Staff Governor

Committee: Resources & Curriculum

Link role: Closing the Gap | Governor Self Review

I qualified as a teacher at age 50, and joined Stoke Newington School in 2009 after working in the music and events business, and later in television production. Currently, I teach A levels in sociology and politics, as well as the Extended Project Qualification.

Previously I was Head of Year and Deputy Director of Sixth Form for three years. Before that, I spent four years as Careers, Work Related Learning and Enterprise Manager, as well as Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator and teacher of KS3 and KS4 Life Skills. This enabled me to develop positive relationships across the school as I collaborated with so many departments. I was elected Staff Governor in 2014.

I understand the importance of providing clear pathways, with both confidence and qualifications, to enable students to move from school into the wider world, to access opportunities and live fulfilling lives. This means the school forges partnerships with HE institutions, business and the arts. I care about student and staff wellbeing as I feel both are essential to achievement, personal development and confidence.

I care very much about the work we do as governors to ensure students leave us with the qualifications and the confidence to go onto live fulfilling lives of their choice.
