Thursday 13th May 2021

Dear Parent/Carers,

Eid Mubarak to our families celebrating Eid this week. We hope you and your families have a joyful time.

Community Safety – City Safehavens

To support our young people feeling safe and supported in the community, please find attached an updated list of local businesses providing a safe space for students in the event of an emergency.

Young people should always go to the most obvious place of safety.

Please share this list of shops with your child so they are aware of their partnership within the community in keeping our young people safe.

Sincere thanks to our parent/carers and local businesses in supporting the scheme.

INSET Days – Friday 28 May and Monday 7 June

Friday 28 May will be a Moderation day for our staff, ensuring the centre-assessed grades process is as rigorous as possible for our Year 11 and Year 13 students.

With changes to the curriculum model starting next academic year, it is important to allow our staff time to prepare for the changes. Therefore, Monday 7 June will be an INSET day.

This means that for both dates, and work will be set on Microsoft Teams Assignments for students to complete. Students are to return to school on Tuesday 8 June 2021.

SNS in the New Era – Wednesday 19 May 6.00pm

As we look forward to the new era post pandemic, this forum will present key priorities for our school and will be an opportunity for parents to have their input.

You can find a link to the forum here

From September 2021, we are looking to strengthen our enrichment programme for our students. Please feel free to email Amar Bailey if you have any ideas, suggestions or recommendations. Thank you to parents who have already done so.

Forum for Parent/Carers of SEND Students – Monday 24 May at 6.00pm

We will be holding a parent/carer forum for parent/carers of students with SEND. This will also be an opportunity to meet with Ms Samara Sherratt, Head of Inclusion/SENCO. Please find a link to this meeting here.

Community Evening – Thursday 27 May 6.00 – 7.00pm

Community Evening is back, and given current restrictions, is being held virtually. We will be celebrating the work done by students about different parts of our community. We will have performances and students showcasing what they learnt and created throughout this year, both in school and during lockdown. We would welcome for you to join us on the evening, showing how Stoke Newington School equips our students to be thinking, active members of our community. A joining link will be available shortly.

Covid-19 Safety Protocols

Students should continue to conduct and register lateral flow tests on Sunday and Wednesday evenings. As always, if your child’s test has a positive result, please email as soon as possible.

A reminder that test kits are available for households, please follow this link for more information and to order. Should your child require further home test kits, please email

Face Masks

At SNS, we are fortunate that many of our staff have had their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccination and the second dose is due to be taken during the half-term break. Therefore, all members of the school community will continue to wear face masks within classrooms until the half term break, thereafter, face masks will only be required in communal areas.

Volunteers for Vaccination Clinic

The Hackney’s Covid-19 vaccination volunteer service would like support with playing the vital role in the roll out. They urgently need new volunteers who can spare at least 3 hours a week between 8am – 8pm, and particularly during the day from 11am – 5pm. If you enjoy meeting and helping people, and want to be part of the hugely successful vaccination roll out, please email
