Dear parents/carers,

Thank you very much for your support for your child, and our school, through the challenging conditions last week.

I am writing to let you know about a number of events coming up at Stoke Newington School.

Firstly, we look forward to seeing many parents/carers at the exciting Stoke Newington 35th Anniversary Gala tonight. Funds raised will be going to the SafaPlace charity/fund which supports mental health for young people in our area.

On the theme of the wellbeing of our young people, we know that some risks to young people occur between the time they leave school and when they get home. We want students to be safe, and to make sure others feel safe, on their way home. I do want to alert parents to some muggings by adults which have occurred in Clissold Park in the late afternoon recently: please do encourage your child to walk with others on very visible routes. I also want to inform parents that any anti-social behaviour by our students outside school will lead to an exclusion from school: the students are aware of this.

We have some sessions for parents, which link to wellbeing and safety, in the coming weeks - as well as two sessions about involvement with our school.

Thursday March 15th: 6.30pm – 7.30pm PTA meeting

Thursday March 15th: 7.30pm-8.30pm Second workshop on setting boundaries for your teenager; all are welcome to this session which is run by Ingrid Cleaver. The aim is to share ideas, experiences and strategies.

Thursday March 22nd: 6.00pm-7.30pm Advice session for parents on supporting your child to prevent/manage anxiety

Monday March 26th: 6.00pm -7.00pm Are you interested in becoming a school governor? Workshop for parents interested in the work of the school governors – see the leaflet attached.

We also look forward to seeing Year 8 parents/carers on Monday 19th March for the Year 8 parents’ evening.

Please do note that school term finishes at 3.10pm for Year 7-11 and 4.10pm for Year 12/13 on Thursday March 29th. The summer term begins on Monday 16th April at 8.40am.

Thank you for your continued support for our school,

With best wishes,

Annie Gammon
