Dear Parent/Carer,

Headteacher’s Letter - Week 24

This week Form Tutors have led discussions with their forms about the themes related to the serious case review. I would like to thank the parent/carers who attended yesterday’s Global Majority forum for their open, honest and solution focused discussion. One key message from yesterday’s discussion was the importance of reflection and acknowledgement in such a complex case to inform future policy and practice.

Meeting with Staff

We have had an increase in parents coming to the school without appointments and demanding to meet with staff members. Please note that staff will be unavailable to meet with you without a prior appointment and therefore will not be able to meet you at short notice. If your matter is urgent and you require to speak to someone, please call Reception.

On Monday 28th March, I will be leading the SEND parent/carer forum which will be an opportunity for parent/carers to come together with the School’s leadership to co-produce our parent forum, similar to our Global Majority forum. You can find a link to the forum at the bottom of the email.

Year 13 UCAS update

Students are now receiving several different offers from their chosen universities. Please remind them that there is no rush to make final decisions at this point, and they should consider spending time carefully looking into each choice further and attending further visits if necessary to help make their final decisions. The deadline for reply is Friday 10 June if all offers were received before Friday 20 May. Further information on Student finance will follow.

Year 13 Apprenticeships and work-based learning

For those students that are interested in alternatives to university, please ask them to contact Juliet Alexander to support them with this. Whilst hearing of the case of Child Q which has caused understandable anger within our society, I am hopeful we will support each other in healing during this process. I end this week’s letter with the following quote:

The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members - Coretta Scott King, an American author, activist and civil rights leader

Wishing you a restful weekend.

With best wishes,

Zehra Jaffer
