At Hackney Council, I lead on energy efficiency grants programmes and fuel poverty and energy advice work, focusing on reducing carbon emissions whilst creating positive outcomes for vulnerable residents and non-profit organisations. In my previous role there, I co-developed community projects with residents of housing estates. I also developed and led projects such as a cost-of-living info booklet and a warm spaces programme, which have since become flagship initiatives in tackling poverty and enhancing living standards.
I worked in school governance for several years before, and I still support some primary schools in South London as their governing body clerk. I have been a governor at a nursery in Newham since 2021 and am excited to join SNS. I hope to understand more about young people’s experiences and secondary schools’ challenges in Hackney.
I am the SEND link governor and have a strong commitment to inclusion and equity of opportunities. I have ADHD, and so does one of my brothers. I know well it can be hard for young people with SEND and their parents. But neurodivergence and other disabilities can also be an asset, with the right strategies and support.
I work with the school SENDCO to understand the challenges students and staff are facing, and to help the team and our board ensure we offer the right support so that each and every pupil can fulfil their potential. I look forward to meeting parents and pupils and learning about their experiences at the school and the complex wider system of agencies.
I am also keen to work with pupils, staff and families on taking climate action - it can be fun, empowering and help us reduce bills.
In my spare time, I love spending time in nature, sharing meals with family and friends, travelling, and attending cultural activities in London. I am passionate about social-environmental justice and have co-developed a few grassroots projects over the years. I am originally from Brazil, have lived in a few different countries and have been in the UK for most of the last 20 years.
